Job title
Technical Program Manager, NCSA HEC Systems Group
Key responsibilities
Generally, I am a member of the Systems Group and we work on the NCSA High Performance Computing (HPC) systems. We don't generally handle the day-to-day operation of those machines. That task is handled by the Technology Management Group. The Systems Group responsibilities include pro-active management of the system resources, both hardware and software, to keep the HPC systems operating efficiently.

Other Responsibilities and Projects

SGI Session Accounting
The SGI Session Accounting project involves the implementation of new accounting capabilities by using the System Audit Trail Mechanism of the IRIX operating system. The interest in using Session Accounting is for the additional job accounting information provided by the operating system. The use of this additional information allows charging to be calculated based on the level of service associated with a job. This level of service is determined by several factors including the machine, or type of processor, and whether the job was run in interactive mode, batch mode, or dedicated mode.
Systems Group web pages
I'm currently maintaining the systems group web pages.  The start page can be found here, but authentication is required to go very far.

Personal Interests

Rolemaster & Shadow World

Rolemaster is a fantasy role-playing game that I indulge in.  No, I do not go around in tunnels and buildings pretending that I am a wizard or a warrior battling fantastic monsters.  We get together and play a game which is mostly in our minds and a little on paper where what happens is determined by a lot of imagination and the roll of the dice.

We play in a world alternately called Kulthea or the Shadow World developed by Terry Kevin Amthor.

Babylon 5

Babylon 5 is a great science fiction series on television. It is generally well-written, the plots are often engaging, and the characters are real and likable. Some more information can be found in the Lurker's Guide to Babylon 5. Yet another reference can be found at www.bayarea.net/~stef/babylon.html and, since they moved from TNT to the Sci-Fi network, yet another reference can be found at the Sci-Fi channel website.
